Model MF860 ext*

Introduction

The MF Industrial MF860 ext* is a 1997-released model of skid loader suitable for many purposes. This article analyses the advantages and disadvantages of its features and specifications, to give potential users an informed opinion on their purchasing decision.

SideShift or CenterMount

The MF Industrial MF860 ext* has a SideShift (SS) configuration, meaning the loader arm is situated left or right of the middle of the machine. This is advantageous compared to the CenterMount setup since it provides a wider working range. Moreover, with SS models, it’s easier to navigate in crowded worksite conditions, since the operator can work from the left or right side of the skid loader, depending on the task demands. The disadvantage of a SideShift model is that its passing capabilities are not as great as with CenterMount.

SAE Dig Depth (mm)

The MF Industrial MF860 ext* has an SAE dig depth of 5860mm. This is advantageous in allowing the loader more reach into deeper trenches and excavations, allowing it to dig and collect a greater area in one pass. The disadvantage of this feature is that it requires more effort to control the position of the bucket, as the dig depth will be greater.

Reach @ Ground Level (mm)

The MF Industrial MF860 ext* has a reach of 7030mm @ ground level. This is beneficial for reaching further distances and manipulating objects from further away, for example, It makes easier to haul materials or operate attachments from greater distances. It can also assist with the loader ability to pick up materials from deep trenches or steep hillsides. The disadvantage of this feature is that it increases the directional instability of the loader, as the longer the reach, the more difficult it is to maintain a direct path towards the resource to reach.

Loading Height (mm)

The MF Industrial MF860 ext* has a maximum loading height of 4270mm. This can be a great advantage, as it allows the loader to reach elevated heights and allows it to reload trucks or other conveyance vehicles with ease. The disadvantage of this feature is that if the truck is too high, the loader may have difficulty in loading it effectively. In addition, the increased loading height may make it difficult to judge angular distance and could result in unintentional tipping of the loader.

Bucket Width, Min-Max (mm)

The MF Industrial MF860 ext* bucket has a width range between 305-900mm. This is advantageous because it delivers the option to use different widths and depths of the buckets when taking on different tasks. Depending on the job, the operator may use a narrow or wide bucket to reduce spillage, or to allow for a deeper load. The disadvantage of this feature is that the wider the bucket, the heavier the machine will become, resulting in slower speed and decreased maneuverability.

Bucket Breakout (kgf)

The MF Industrial MF860 ext* bucket has a breakout force of 5260kgf. This enables the loader to pry open objects like pallets and logs with ease, as well as handling dense materials, such as clay and concrete with utmost efficiency. The disadvantage of this is that using too much breakout force can cause physical damage to delicate objects, like pipes and fragile materials, and can also damage the loader itself.

Dipper Breakout (kgf)

The MF Industrial MF860 ext* dipper has a breakout force of 3300kgf. This is advantageous for the lifting and pushing of various materials, such as cement blocks, stones, and even logs. The disadvantage of this feature is that it can be difficult to limit the power to the necessary amount. If too much force is applied, it can cause permanent damage to the loader or objects being moved.

Slew System

The MF Industrial MF860 ext* has a Cylinder Slew System. This is beneficial in that it offers a higher level of accuracy in operation, as the operator will have greater control over the loader’s angle and the level of force applied when slewing. The disadvantage of this feature is that it may require more frequent maintenance due to the complexity of the system and its moving pieces.

Loader Bucket Capacity (m3)

The MF Industrial MF860 ext* has a loader bucket capacity of 0.95m3. This is advantageous in that it offers greater volume for loading, meaning it can carry heavier and larger loads of material, as well as being able to finish jobs faster. The disadvantage of this feature is that larger loads can decrease maneuverability and require more effort to operate.

Dump Height (mm)

The MF Industrial MF860 ext* has a dump height of 2710mm. This is beneficial in that it allows for greater heights for unloading and dumping of materials, meaning it can unload into relatively high trucks and other containers. The downside of this is that it increases the chance of spillage, as when reaching high heights, the materials can escape and fall out.

Engine Make & Model

The MF Industrial MF860 ext* is powered by a Perkins 1004.4 TLR2 engine. This is an advantage in that it is a robust and reliable engine, allowing it to have plenty of power and improved fuel-efficiency. The disadvantage of this feature is that the engine may require more maintenance due to its sophistication and age.

Engine Power (kW@rpm)

The MF Industrial MF860 ext* engine has a maximum power output of 67 kW @ 2200 rpm. This is beneficial in that it provides the loader with plenty of power and torque to tackle challenging tasks and makes it more efficient when it comes to fuel consumption, as it has the capability to adjust to various load and speed conditions. The disadvantage of this feature is that it may require the operator to have some degree of knowledge in engine management to get the most out of it.

Engine Displacement (lit)

The MF Industrial MF860 ext* has an engine displacement of 4 liters. This is advantageous in that it offers enough displacement to offer power but not so much as to be overly costly in terms of fuel usage. The disadvantage of this feature is that it may take longer to build the full power output than engines with a larger displacement.

Number of Cylinders

The MF Industrial MF860 ext* has 4 cylinders. This is advantageous in providing smoother power delivery and allowing more control in the operation of the loader. The disadvantage of this feature is that 4 cylinders require more precision and maintenance since any misalignment or malfunction in one cylinder will affect the efficiency of the entire system.

Pump Type

The MF Industrial MF860 ext* has a Gear Pump type. This is advantageous in that it offers a reliable and easy to maintain system, since it contains fewer moving parts compared to other pump types. The disadvantage of this feature is that the torque output is limited and can be less efficient for heavier loads and tougher tasks.
